Agios Gordios beach is one of the most famous on the island specially for the sand, the scenic rock cliffs, the green sea and the numbers of its visitors. But what gives this sandy beach a great charateristic it's a big tall rock on it's left side, which is know by the name of Ortholithi (Standing Stone).
Our swim will start from the main beach on the left side and close to the cliffs, where the sea is relatively shallow for the whole swim. Our target is to reach Ortholithi rock, explore the area, have a small reast on a small sandy beach close ot it and get back to the main shore again.
By moving close to the cliffs, we will be able always to admire the sandy bottom with some fallen rocks into it. The sea in the area has a green color and the waters are clrystal clear most of the time.
Ortholithi is a place some snorkeling tourists dare to reach for an explore. But swimming to it is something totally different.
This big rock is just after a small boat port that we will meet in our course. Instead of getting straight to the rock, we prefer to just overpass it and head towards the deep sea before making a left turn describing a nice circle around it. Afterwards we get to the shallow small sandy shore that resides between the rock and the cliffs, have some nice refreshments and a rest stop for chatting and fun.
By that shore rest point we will be able to admire not only a big part of the North - West coast of Corfu Island, towards the other famous sandy beaches like Glyfada and Pelekas, but also the Agios Gordios beach itself which will look so far way, actually 1.5km. Yes it is pretty amazing how far you can can go sometimes by using just some swim capabilities.
Our way back to the beach will be a great finale. Once on shore it will be time for a small snack enjoyng that feelling, that we have conquered by swimming that lonely big rock, away from the beach and 99% of its visitors.
Lifeguard escort and RESCUE BOAT will provided for the swim.
